The college's Division of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts will present Neil Simon's farcical romp on March 10 through 13 at 7:30 pm in the Sprint Theater at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the NWFSC Niceville campus.
The full length Neil Simon comedy was a Broadway smash hit that later became a hit movie starring Frank Sinatra. In the play Alan Baker, a 30ish swinging bachelor with time, money and women to spare, welcomes rebellious and eager 21 year old brother Buddy into his den of iniquity while their horrified parents can only watch and pray.
Bored with living at home with his parents, young Buddy Baker played by Jesses Fryery of Mary Ester packs his bags and arrives unannounced at the Manhattan apartment of his older brother, Alan, portrayed by Joseph Bishop of Navarre, a fast-living, girl-chasing bachelor who never allows his duties at his father's artificial fruit factory to interfere with his pleasures. Pleased at his brother's show of independence, Alan buys Buddy a flashy new wardrobe and introduces him to the New York night life.
Their father, played by Ron Altman of Niceville, becomes enraged at Alan's poor example and at his irresponsible loss of an important account. Buddy is such an apt pupil that he soon takes over his brother's private stock of liquor and begins dating his girl friend, Peggy, played by Chelsea Sorenson of Shalimar. Alan becomes frightened at the prospect of a serious relationship and alienates his favorite girl friend, Connie played by Charity Barger of Fort Walton Beach. Suddenly realizing the futility of his life, Alan urges Buddy to end his carousing and settle down, but Buddy is having too good a time. An argument ensues jolting Alan into maturity, and he decides to propose to Connie.
Following their marriage, Alan discovers that his mother, played by Sheila Johnson of Crestview, has left his father because of his bad temper, but Alan effects their reconciliation, successfully concludes a business deal, and bequeaths his bachelor apartment to the delighted Buddy.
90 minutes prior to the start of the show, the Mattie Kelly Arts Center Holzhauer and McIlroy Galleries will be open for patrons to view the current exhibition the ''NWFSC Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition with NWFSC Arts Center Faculty and Staff Exhibition''.
