OWC Mattie Kelly Arts Center Expands New Ticket Policy & Opens Sales for All 2008 College Productions; Broadway Show 'Movin' Out' Becomes Latest Sold Out Show of the Season

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

11/28/07 - Building on the success of this year's Broadway season, the Mattie Kelly Fine and Performing Arts Center at Okaloosa-Walton College announced today that it is opening ticket sales for all 2008 OWC productions, including the popular annual performances of the college's show choir, Dance Facets, the spring theatrical production of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night", the summer musical "Gypsy", and all remaining Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra performances. Tickets for any of these events may be purchased now through the center's box office or website.

Earlier this year, the center instituted a new ticket policy which placed tickets for all of the nationally touring Broadway and Artist shows on sale at once. That move garnered a phenomenal response from the public, with jammed box office phone lines the first day of ticket sales and five sold out show dates thus far, including the Broadway musical "Movin' Out" scheduled for February 25, 2008 which the center announced today has also sold out of advance tickets.

Therefore, center executive director Dr. Cliff Herron announced today that the "all shows" advance ticket policy will be expanded to include OWC productions as well. "We want to give patrons the option to purchase advance tickets now to any of our events - both the national shows and our stellar OWC produced events," Herron said.

The 2008 OWC events which are now available for purchase include:

- "Twelfth Night" on March 19, 20, 21 and 22 in the Mattie Kelly Arts Center's Sprint Theater. This OWC theatrical production of William Shakespeare's comedy of mistaken identity and the madness of love is $15 for adults and $10 for youth. The Sprint Theater is the smaller of the two theaters at the arts complex and seating is limited. Advance tickets are strongly encouraged.

- "Dance Facets" on April 25 and 26 in the Mattie Kelly Arts Center's mainstage theater. This popular annual dance concert will include performance of original work choreographed by guest artist Audrey Balavoine of France and everything from classical pointe work to an 'extreme makeover'. The entire concert will consist of 10 choreographic works featuring four student works and 50 student, faculty and community dancers. The event is a fundraiser for the OWC dance program and tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for youth.

- "Soundsations Show Choir Season Finale" on May 2 in the Mattie Kelly Arts Center's mainstage theater. OWC's sensational show choir features scholarship dance and vocal students who will perform an energetic Las Vegas revue with everything from Motown to gospel, country and more. The event is a fundraiser for the show choir and tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for youth.

- "Gypsy" on July 9, 10, 11, and 12 in the Mattie Kelly Arts Center's mainstage theater. The OWC summer musical production is always a highlight of the local theatrical season. In "Gyspy" the raw side of show business is shown as stage mother, Rose, pushes her daughters into a life she hopes will lead them to stardom. This musical will take you on an emotional ride to see the bright and dark side of a show business life. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for youth.

Also available now through the expanded ticket policy are choice advance seats for the remaining concerts of the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra's season. The 20-year-old professional symphony, in residence at OWC, is celebrating the inaugural season of its new conductor and music director, Jeffrey Rink, formerly of Boston. Performance dates include: December 7 when the NFSO performs a "Holiday Pops" concert with the Northwest Florida Symphony Chorus; February 22 for an NFSO "Stars of Tomorrow" concert featuring the winners of the prestigious regional Concerto Competition; and April 18 for "Beethoven and Friends" when the symphony chorus once again joins with the full symphony for a jubilant conclusion to the NFSO season. Symphony tickets are $22.50 each.

Herron emphasized that even with the record number of national sold out shows; seats are still available for the January 9 appearance of veteran actor Hal Holbrook in "Mark Twain Tonight" and the Broadway musical "Annie" on January 30. He also said a limited number of front row seats in the orchestra section are available for the Broadway show "Ring of Fire" on February 1, which features the music and story of the legendary Johnny Cash. "The main floor and balcony for 'Ring of Fire' are sold out, but the show confirmed that they won't need the orchestra pit so we are able to raise the pit and add three rows of additional up-front seats to this event," explained Herron.

Current sold out nationally touring shows include two nights of STOMP on December 11 and 12, "The Producers" on February 20, and "Movin' Out" on February 25. The first performance of the season, "Evita", also sold out. There is no waiting list for events which sell out of advance tickets, but patrons may check by phone with the box office the day of the show to see if any seats have become available.
