10/3/2012 - The Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts Division of Northwest Florida State College will present the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play, "Proof" by David Auburn, from October 17 to 20 at 7:30 p.m. each night in the Sprint Theater of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the Niceville campus. Tickets are $15 adults and $10 for youth age 18 or younger, with a $2 per ticket processing fee, and are on sale now from the Box Office by phone or web. Call (850) 729-6000 or visit www.mattiekellyartscenter.org. The Box Office will open at 6:00 p.m. each night of the show for any remaining tickets, subject to availability. The 185-seat Sprint Theater is the smaller of two theater venues at the college's performing arts center and advance ticket purchase is recommended to ensure seating.

The college will also host special Student Nights on October 15 and 16 only for NWFSC students or area high school students who will be admitted free of charge by showing a current student ID at the door, no ticket required. Student nights are on a first-come basis and seating is limited. Doors open at 7:00 pm on Student Nights.

NWFSC students may also obtain one free ticket to the public performance nights, October 17 to 20, with student ID in person from the Box Office.

The intriguing drama, which was also made into a 2005 film starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Anthony Hopkins, "Proof" tells the story of a daughter, Catherine, played by Cierra Robbeloth of Ft. Walton Beach dealing with the death of her mentally ill, mathematical genius of a father, while struggling with her own sense of sanity. The father Robert will be played by Danny Thomas of Niceville as a character who shows up periodically in flashbacks and his daughter's imagination. Other roles in the play include Hal – Robert's former graduate student, played by Zachary Phillips of Niceville and Claire – Catherine's no-nonsense older sister, played by Talia Davila of Crestview.

Catherine - a genius herself who dropped out of school to tend to her father throughout his lengthy mental illness, now fears that she is following in her father's footsteps both mathematically and mentally. When her father's former student Hal discovers a paradigm-shifting proof about prime numbers in Robert's office, Catherine finds herself in a fight to prove that she, in fact, wrote the proof. The play is directed by Clint Mahle, NWFSC theatre instructor. ##
