National Tour of Tony Award Musical "Damn Yankees" Mattie Kelly Arts Center January 28

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

1/19/2012 - The Tony Award-winning musical comedy Damn Yankees comes to the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College on January 28 at 7:30 p.m. Damn Yankees is of a series of national touring Broadway shows appearing this season at the $25 million state-of-the-art performance venue located on the college's Niceville campus.

Home runs, hit songs and a sizzling temptress named Lola have made Damn Yankees a favorite with audiences across the nation and the show has been hailed by critics as "Broadway showbiz at its fast-paced skillful best!" Its sassy, winning ways earned this baseball tale eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The Broadway hit spins the tale of a baseball fanatic who sells his soul to the Devil to help his favorite team win the pennant race against the New York Yankees. The show is filled with hit songs such as "Whatever Lola Wants" and "You Gotta Have Heart."

Tickets are available by phone, web or in-person from the Box Office for $45 each. A group discount of $5 off per ticket is available for groups of 10 or more. The Box Office is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 p.m. and starting at 6:00 p.m. the night of the show. Call (850) 729-6000 or purchase online at

Based on a book by Douglass Wallop, with music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross (of "The Pajama Games"), Damn Yankees tells the story of Joe Boyd – a middle-aged real estate agent who takes his love of baseball to an extreme when he trades his soul to the Devil to transform his favorite team, the Washington Senators, into a winning team – only to eventually discover the true worth of the life (and wife) he left at home.

All 1,650 seats in the main theater at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center are no more than 90 feet from the stage - making every seat "the best seat in the house" at the performance venue which is located on the eastern edge of the college's Niceville campus at 100 College Boulevard. The center is just minutes from Interstate 10 or the mid-Bay Bridge, and is easily accessible to patrons from surrounding communities.
