NWF State College Dance Program Presents Dance Facets 2011: Déjà Nu, April 15 & 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

3/14/2011 -

The Northwest Florida State College's Division of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts dance program proudly presents Dance Facets 2011: Déjà Nu on April 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. on the mainstage of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center. In this year’s annual presentation, 38 dancers will perform twelve original dance presentations featuring: classical ballet, contemporary, and modern. The faculty is also restaging work from the past 10 years to provide the retrospective side of the dance concert while the student and guest pieces represent new works.

The dance and movement on stage will be enhanced by special lighting effects designed by NWFSC students and staff. The synergistic effect of dramatic music, ethereal lighting and emotional dance culminates to present artistic interpretations about social realities as well as fantasies. An eclectic array of musical styles, including Tchaikovsky, Annie Lennox, Afro Celt Sound System, Michael W. Smith and Jeremy Ribando, just to name a few, are featured.

The audiences can expect to be energized and entertained with choreographic works entitled: Sleeping Beauty Fairies, Forte Saine Heureuse, The Book I Never Read, Bhajan, A Series of Eight Counts, Cry Freedom, And the (Fosse) Beat Goes On, Sunrise to Sunset La Vie Sous La Mer, and Meditative Apparitions. Dance Facets also features Aasha Sriram, a guest choreographer, who will perform solo for a classical Bharata Natyam – a traditional dance from India. Sriram also choreographed a new Bollywood style piece Aaja Nachle which NWFSC dance students will perform.

The 38 cast members include from Niceville - Ruth Berry, Cameron Daniels, Hector Delgado, Annabelle Dunbar, Harmony Hamilton, Sharon Patterson, Jamie Roberts, Matt Ruff, and Lizzie Wilson; from Fort Walton Beach - Nick Beechum, Celise Blackman, Heather Connelly, Roxy Curtis, Natalie Fowler, Andrew Knight, Rebecca Moore, Barclay Nichol, Patty Perez-Borroto, Amy Toole, Amie Urban, Melissa Wade, Ashley Wheeler, and Karla Zaldivar; from Shalimar - Nate Beechum, Jennifer Cordiero, Allyson Johnson, Brittany McCoy, Shelia Postlewate, and Alex Triliegi; from Crestview - Ashley Gaston; from Navarre - Candace Isaacs and Carrie Rogers; from DeFuniak Springs - Gillian Poole, Bailey Snell, and Meghan Snell; and from Destin - Kyle Poppell, Alexis Tringas, and Mary Rodgers.

All proceeds go to support the Frances Smith Herron Dance Endowment at NWFSC, a fund named in memory of the late Frances Herron, a college dance instructor who passed away in August 2006.
