December Events Bring in the Holidays at Mattie Kelly Arts Center

11/16/2009 - The holiday season kicks off with a series of free and ticketed events at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the Niceville campus of Northwest Florida State College. From jazz to orchestral favorites, there is sure to be something for everyone. Most events are free and open to the public. Events requiring tickets may be purchased from the Mattie Kelly Box Office in-person or by phone at (850) 729-6000.

December 3 - NWFSC Jazz Ensemble Concert, 7:30 p.m., Mainstage, Free - no ticket required
The NWFSC Jazz Ensemble is comprised of NWFSC students and is led by Fred Domulot and Tom Latenser. The free concert will include a great line-up of jazz favorites.

December 4 - NWFSC Madrigals & Belle Voci ''Holiday Delights'', 7:30 p.m., Tyler Recital Hall, $15 each
The NWFSC Madrigals, a select 23-voice mixed ensemble of scholarship vocalists under the direction of Allison Everitt, and Belle Voci, a select 14-voice student womens ensemble under the direction of Lois Van Dam, will perform a variety of a capella holiday music to delight the senses. Following the performance, a tasty array of gourmet cookies and coffee will delight the palate.

December 5 - Junior Orchestra Winter Concert, 11 a.m., Tyler Recital Hall, Free - no ticket required
The talented junior orchestra, featuring a group of musicians in grades 4 to 8 from Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa County schools, will perform classical and holiday favorites.

December 5 - NWFSC Schola Cantorum ''Angels and Shepherds'', 6 p.m., Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Niceville, Free - no ticket required
NWFSC's Schola Cantorum, translated School of Singing, will present music from across the ages that is mostly unaccompanied by instruments.

December 6 - ''Furioso 5'' NWFSC Flute Quintet, 2 p.m., Tyler Recital Hall, Free - no ticket required
The ''Furioso 5'' quintet is made up of local flutists, including both students and adults. It uses many of the members of the flute family, including piccolo, concert flute, alto flute, and bass flute.

December 7 - NWFSC Schola Cantorum ''Angels and Shepherds'', 7 p.m., First Presbyterian Church in Crestview, Free - no ticket required
NWFSC's Schola Cantorum, translated School of Singing, will present music from across the ages that is mostly unaccompanied by instruments.

December 9 - NWFSC Schola Cantorum ''Angels and Shepherds'', 7:15 p.m., Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Shalimar, Free - no ticket required
NWFSC's Schola Cantorum, translated School of Singing, will present music from across the ages that is mostly unaccompanied by instruments.

December 11 - Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra ''Holiday Pops'', 7:30 p.m., Mainstage, $22.50 adults/$16 Youth 18 & under and Active-Duty Military
The Northwest Florida Symphony Chorus, under the direction of Lois Van Dam, joins the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra (NFSO) to perform a wide array of holiday music including a carol sing-along!

December 12 - Northwest Florida Youth Chorus ''Christmas on the Bayou'', 11 a.m., Tyler Recital Hall, Free - no ticket required
The Youth Chorus, under the direction of Judy Eddins, features young vocalists in grades 4-8 who will perform holiday favorites.

December 13 - Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra Winter Concert, 3 p.m., Mainstage, Free - no ticket required
The Youth Orchestra, comprised of 50 talented students in grades 5-12 from Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa Counties, is conducted by Liz Aylor, who is also the director of the Symphonic String's program in Okaloosa County. The concert will feature a selection of holiday favorites.

December 14 - NWFSC Schola Cantorum ''Angels and Shepherds'', 7 p.m., Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville, Free - no ticket required
NWFSC's Schola Cantorum, translated School of Singing, will present music from across the ages that is mostly unaccompanied by instruments.

December 16 - NWFSC Schola Cantorum ''Angels and Shepherds'', 7 p.m., St. Simon's-on-the-Sound Episcopal Church in Fort Walton Beach, Free - no ticket required
NWFSC's Schola Cantorum, translated School of Singing, will present music from across the ages that is mostly unaccompanied by instruments.
